Pitch for the film Distortion

Distortion

The theme for my film would be post modernism. This would be involved as my film, which follows the trailer, would be about questioning the idea of reality within the human mind. My film would begin with the average life of Jason and how he doesn’t get along with his parents. Jason is a stereotypical teenager which is moody and resentful towards his parents. On the way to a school meeting, Jason and his mum and dad are arguing in the car which results in the dad being distracted and crashing. It causes a horrific accident as the car rolls over and over until it reaches a ditch. The next thing Jason can remember is waking up in a white bright room and from then on his life changes. Every time he closes his eyes, his reality changes and time repeats itself to fit the other scenario. One reality is that his mother survived the crash but his Dad didn’t, and the other reality is his Dad survived and his Mum didn’t. Throughout the film, Jason tries to discover the true reality of his life and to figure out which parent survived. He does this by going to his friend for support and trying to bring back past memories he shared with his parents to trigger his mind. He mentally struggles however, as he is enjoying spending time with both parents and doesn’t to lose one of them, so whilst he is trying to find the truth, he is trying to appreciate both his mum and dad as much as he can. Eventually, he realises he cannot keep living like this, whenever he closes his eyes he always see a vision of a church in his local town. He later realises this is where he needs to go to find the truth and to leave these alternate realities behind, so he visits the church where he finds both his Mum and Dad’s gravestones. This is when he realises that both the realities are not real and it was his mind tricking him to get over both losses. Jason regrets not appreciating his parents but he was able to say goodbye to both of through his mind of realities.
